Useful Tips for International Visitors

  • İstanbulkart (Public Transport Card):
    • You must use an İstanbulkart to ride metros, trams, buses, and Marmaray.
    • Where to buy: Vending machines (kiosks) at the airport metro entrances and major stations.
    • Cost: The card itself is a small deposit, and you can load credit (TL) onto it. It is much cheaper than buying single tickets.
  • Payment: Credit cards are not accepted on buses/metros (only İstanbulkart or special QR tickets). Please buy your card at the airport.
  • Traffic Hours: Avoid traveling between 08:00–09:30 and 17:30–20:00 on weekdays if possible, as traffic is heavy.
  • Wi-Fi on Campus: Free Wi-Fi is available via the "YTU Guest" network (SMS verification may be required).
  • Language: Metro and bus signs are in Turkish, but major transfer stations have English translations. When in doubt, show the driver or a local this address:
"Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Davutpaşa Kampüsü'ne gidiyorum." (I am going to YTÜ Davutpaşa Campus).
